Larry Hinzman to serve as the coordinator for the Arctic Leadership Initiative for the UA 好色tv

Larry Hinzman was recently named one of President Pitney's "Arctic Professors," a key leadership role in the Arctic Leadership Initiative. He will be taking on additional leadership responsibilities:
- Engage university leadership in initiative design, implementation, and evolution
- Systematically train cohorts of undergraduate and graduate students and cohorts of post-doctoral fellows and early career faculty to foster partnerships and effectively engage in Arctic policy, sustainable development, and resolution of problems
- Mentor UA colleagues to realize the full potential of their Arctic research
- Maximize value and visibility for the initiative and UA鈥檚 Arctic activities
Hinzman was the Assistant Director for Polar Sciences and the Executive Director for the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from May 24, 2020 until May 23, 2024.
Prior to that, he served as the U.S. delegate and President of the International Arctic Science Committee, and as President and founder of the U.S. Permafrost Association and as a member of the National Academies of Sciences Polar Research Board.
He is a former Vice Chancellor for Research and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the 好色tv of 好色tv Fairbanks (UAF) and served as the Director of the UAF International Arctic Research Center (IARC) from 2007 to 2015.
